Pop-up-shop for Jay Z’s “Reasonable Doubt” to release in New York

The album release pop-up retail store is going to be a big thing. Thanks to Kanye west’s “Life of Pablo concept, which drew flocks of fans this summer when it expanded from Los Angeles and New York to nearly two dozen locations all over the world. Now, jay Z’s team is sampling his sometime-collaborator’s idea with the opening this week of a pop-up store for merchandize related to his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt," that was released 20 years back.

Kareem “Biggs Burke”, who confounded Roc-A-Fella Records with jay Z and Damon Dash, has partnered with shopping site Fancy.com on a New York popup store that tips its hat to the album Jay Z came out with back in his husting days. It will be open at 347 Broadway in Tribeca from Oct. 20 through Oct. 23, reports Women’s Wear Daily. A pop-up store for the album’s anniversary was already held in Los Angeles in June, inside a temporary space modeled after the Brooklyn entertainment mogul’s old apartment where he grew up in Brooklyn.

This time around, the shop will be set up to look like DJ Premier’s studio B control room at famous hip-hop recording venue D&D Studios where Jay Z recorded songs for the album. Shoppers can check out the equipment used to record the album, along with graffiti recreated by the same artist who tagged the studio space.

Fancy has produced five “Reasonable Doubt”-themed collaboration pieces with designers Ishu, Lstn, Vnyl, Curioos and Moreca Atelier, each designed to commemorate songs from the album. Bruke also said, later this year he will work with 14 specialty streetwear retailers nationwide, including Concepts in New York Ubiq in Philadelphia and Social Status in Charlotte, recording studio North Carolina, on a collection of Roc96 merchandise. Each store will carry exclusive pieces from the line.
